about

At the Smokefreerockquest 2011 national finals, we won the Lowdown Best Song Award for "There Is A Light" and part of the prize was to be flown to Auckland for a recording session.

Renowned producer Nic Manders (Brooke Fraser, Elemeno P, Luke Thompson, Parachute Music, etc) was put in charge of the recording session. We recorded the bulk of the instrumental tracks at Neil Finn's Roundhead Studios; overdubs and vocal tracks were tracked on vintage sound desks at Montage Studio - an intimate recording studio hidden in Grey Lynn.

The song was written nearly 3 years ago before the band even started; but never became part of our repertoire until the beginning of 2011. Although we had other songs originally planned to be our 'main song' for last year's SFRQ, due to our familys' hesitation we ended up using There Is A Light.

We're all proud of the song and are very glad that we are finally able to share the finished product with everyone! This release includes both the radio edit of the song, the full version, and the old EP version.
